What are the aim of HESLB

The primary function of HESLB is to provide loans to eligible students who are unable to afford the cost of higher education. These loans cover tuition fees, accommodation, books, and other related expenses. The loans are repayable after the completion of studies, with a grace period given to allow graduates to find employment before starting repayment.

How to apply for a loan

To apply for a loan from HESLB, students must meet certain eligibility criteria. These criteria include being a Tanzanian citizen, having secured admission to an accredited higher education institution, and demonstrating financial need. Applicants are also required to provide supporting documents such as academic certificates, admission letters, and proof of income or lack thereof.

Steps for Loan application

The loan application process involves several steps. First, students need to create an account on the HESLB online portal and fill out the application form. They must then submit the required documents for verification. Once the application is reviewed and approved, the loan amount is disbursed directly to the institution where the student is enrolled.

Repayment of the loan

Repayment of the loan begins one year after graduation or six months after dropping out of studies. The repayment period varies depending on the loan amount and can range from three to ten years. The repayment amount is determined based on the borrower’s income level, with a percentage deducted from their monthly salary.

Scholarships

HESLB also offers scholarships to academically gifted students who demonstrate financial need. These scholarships are awarded based on merit and cover the full cost of tuition and other related expenses. Scholarship recipients are selected through a competitive process that includes academic performance, interviews, and recommendations.

HESLB plays a crucial role in promoting access to higher education in Tanzania by providing financial assistance to students who would otherwise be unable to afford it. Through its loan and scholarship programs, the board helps thousands of students pursue their dreams of higher education and contribute to the development of the country.
