Examinations provided by NECTA

The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) conducts various examinations at different levels of education in Tanzania. These examinations assess students’ knowledge and skills in different subjects and play a crucial role in determining their academic progress and future opportunities. The examinations administered by NECTA include the Standard Four National Assessment (SFNA), Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), Form Two National Assessment (FTNA), Qualifying Test (QT), Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE), Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE), General Aptitude Test for Certificate of Education (GATCE), General Aptitude Test for Selection of Candidates for Certificate of Education (GATSCCE), Diploma in Technical Education (DTE), and Diploma in Secondary Education Examination (DSEE).

1. Standard Four National Assessment (SFNA)

The SFNA is an examination conducted at the end of primary school education, specifically for students in Standard Four. It assesses their knowledge and understanding in subjects such as Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Science, and Social Studies. The results of SFNA provide feedback on students’ performance and help identify areas that need improvement.

2. Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE)

The PSLE is a national examination taken by students at the end of primary school education, usually in Standard Seven. It evaluates students’ proficiency in subjects like Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Science, and Social Studies. The PSLE results are used to determine the placement of students into different secondary schools based on their performance.

3. Form Two National Assessment (FTNA)

The FTNA is an assessment conducted at the end of Form Two in secondary school. It evaluates students’ understanding and knowledge in subjects such as Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Science, Social Studies, and Vocational Skills. The FTNA results provide feedback on students’ progress and help in identifying areas that require improvement.

4. Qualifying Test (QT)

The QT is an examination administered to students who have completed Form Four and wish to pursue further studies at the advanced level. It assesses their knowledge and skills in subjects relevant to their chosen field of study. The QT results are used for selection purposes by higher education institutions.

5. Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE)

The CSEE is a national examination taken by students at the end of secondary school education, usually in Form Four. It evaluates students’ understanding and proficiency in subjects such as Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Science, Social Studies, and optional subjects. The CSEE results play a significant role in determining students’ eligibility for further education or employment opportunities.

6. Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE)

The ACSEE is an examination conducted at the end of advanced level secondary education, usually in Form Six. It assesses students’ knowledge and skills in subjects related to their chosen field of study. The ACSEE results are crucial for university admissions and serve as a basis for selecting candidates for higher education programs.

7. General Aptitude Test for Certificate of Education (GATCE)

The GATCE is a test administered to candidates who have completed Form Six and wish to pursue teaching programs at teacher training colleges. It assesses their general aptitude and suitability for teaching careers.

8. General Aptitude Test for Selection of Candidates for Certificate of Education (GATSCCE)

The GATSCCE is a test conducted to select candidates for admission into teacher training colleges. It evaluates candidates’ aptitude and suitability for teaching careers.

9. Diploma in Technical Education (DTE)

The DTE is a diploma program offered by technical colleges in Tanzania. Students who have completed Form Four or equivalent qualifications can enroll in this program. The DTE examination assesses students’ knowledge and skills in technical subjects and is a requirement for obtaining the diploma.

10. Diploma in Secondary Education Examination (DSEE)

The DSEE is an examination taken by students pursuing the Diploma in Secondary Education program. It evaluates their understanding and proficiency in subjects related to secondary education teaching.
